Psychic Pspam

Sometimes, a piece of spam comes through that seems to have been specially designed to catch my attention, almost as if the Evil Spammers have been spying on me or researching my interests. For example, I had one come through this morning from "Tammy Pierce" - one of my all-time favorite authors - but it turned out not to have been sent to me directly; rather to a generic address which ends up in my mailbox. Still, this sort of thing is enough to make a geek paranoid...

Well, if you want physics-related spam, there were the ones a couple of years back purporting to be from a stranded time traveller who wante to buy complex scientific equipmenmt to rebuild his oojamaflip...

I always get spam from Harry Potter related addresses. Tis weird...

*nods* I've had a fair few of those as well, plus some from Yoda. I'm sure it is a deliberate thing to catch people's attention, it's just that in particular case it's a name that will be known to a small fraction of the number of people that will have heard of Harry Potter or Star Wars characters.
