Off to Disneyworld...

...in about 8 1/2 months. Finally took the plunge and signed up for Nimbus 2003 (the temptation of a free "Early Bird" T-shirt did the trick. One can never have too many T-shirts) Flights and hotel reservations can wait until I figure out the details - but I may as well make the most of it and go for a few extra days. The Babylon 5 convention I went to back in '97 was one of the most fun weekends of my life, so I'm hoping that this will be just as good. Of course, there's the bit where I have to tell the boss why I want the time off, but then again I had to bring up the B5 convention at my interview, so...

You do know that I'm going to be the Game Room co-ordinator for that, don't you? See the cast list, passim.

I hope that this can go towards solving the "who am I going to share a room with..." problem :-/

I had, indeed, spotted your name on said list. And, yes, part of the ulterior motive behind the post was the quest for roomies. Anyone else want to join the party? The more, the merrier (or at least cheaper).

They can stick an extra bed (a "cot", they call it) in the room for $25/night. This means three people, each with their own bed, for under $60/night/person - which is, apparently, not too bad considering how nice the rooms are, where they're situated and so forth. A third roommate would be a definite bonus. (Have asked the cygnusfap already, but he's more interested in going to East Europe than to Nimbus next summer. *tcsh*) Four in a two-bedded room would be under $40/night/person, but would require people to get up close and personal. Zig-a-zig ahh!

All told, especially if you're/we're going to stay a bit longer to do the Disney World thing, there ain't going to be much change left from a thousand pounds. *wibbles*

The total cost is a somewhat open-ended thing. My current plan is to go the whole hog - what with virtually all my holidays involving staying with family (free accommodation etc), I reckon I can justify one big splurge.

Flight prices: A quick look on Travelocity turns up fares from £242, or £280 for a direct flight. Unfortunately these ones are only booking up to the end of March at present, so probably want to leave this for a few months.

Booking the room will have to wait until flights can be booked - depending on which days the cheap fares are available. I'm thinking in the region of a week to 10 nights for me, if roomies want less nights, that's fine and we can split the cost for those nights only.

Have you had any thoughts with regard to Nimbus cosplay? I would have thought that you would be able to do a cracking Severus Snape, even if only for a night or two, and you would almost certainly be beating off the affections of the Snapefan community with a stick. (Or even a wand.) We all know you're a Slytherin...

I tried for several minutes to see whether there was a way to make "I think you could do a cracking Severus Snape" sound like a compliment. Did it work?

OK, probably showing my ignorance here, but WTF is a cosplay? I'm not entirely convinced about my ability to do a cracking Severus Snape, and even less convinced that I want the affections of the Screaming Teenyboppers. BTW, if you're implying that I have the acting ability of Alan Rickman, I think I can bring myself to see that as a compliment ;-)

"cosplay" is pretentiousfanspeak for "dressing up", possibly involving the basics of acting and possibly involving fetish-ish connotations if people are lucky.

I would have thought that a Snape cosplay would attract the Screaming Ladies Of A Certain Age, not the Teenyboppers of this world. ;-)

You're doin' a real good job of putting me off, there - I'm not sure that Ladies Of A Certain Age are preferable to Teenyboppers. In any case, I'm not that much of a one for the whole dressing up thing (OK, so I did go to a fancy dress party as Harry earlier in the year).
