The Da Vinci Cast

So, I've had a look over the casting choices for the movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code. I can't argue with the acting ability of most of the choices, but the producers seem to have (in most cases) chosen people who completely fail to fit [my mind's eye view of] the characters. What do you think? Obviously, it would be rather pointless to try filling out this poll if you haven't read the book. The actual cast are listed after the character name for your mocking pleasure. Folks who haven't read the book may want to stay clear of the comments in case of spoilers.

Poll #514433 Re-cast The Da Vinci Code

Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks)

Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tatou)

Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen)

Bishop Aringarosa (Alfred Molina)

Bezu Fache (Jean Reno)

Silas (Paul Bettany)

I haven't read it, although I'd like to - none of my book suppliers have passed it on. Book suppliers... makes me sound like I have a crack habit. lol

At any rate, I'd like to nominate Janet Reno instead of Jean Reno, and I will be very impressed if you know who she is. I suspect that only Americans will know and then they'll realize that I really do have a crackbook habit. ;)
Actually, I do happen to know that she was Attorney General. Whether I know this for any reason than that she popped up as a character on Ally McBeal for a couple of episodes is an entirely different question, though...
*laughs* You still get the point, but I'm fairly certain that is why you know it. Some things never change, hmm?
WHilst I think that it'll make a better film than a book, I really couldn't even beging to make a start at casting this..
Before I start flinging my opinion around, I'm going to ask if you actually enjoyed the book ... as I feel my opinion of it somewhat informs my casting choices.
I think I'd probably take the 'damning with faint praise' approach. It certainly isn't good enough to deserve its world-wide bestseller status. But then, neither do most world-wide bestsellers...
Can't make Paul Bettany evil. It's just wrong!
