In which I turn to the Dark Side

So, I did the "Your Letter to SatanSanta" meme. Alas, it was mostly dull, except for the part where "Last Monday I helped iharthdarth hide a body (-173 points)". Hee!

As mentioned a while ago, I've been playing a fair bit of Age of Empires III. In contrast to then, I do actually have a few wins under my belt now, although finding a good game remains difficult - there's no easy way of gauging your opponent's skill level until they grind you into the dust you play against them (and lots of good players pose as newbies for some sadistic reason - possibly to gain "experience points" and easy wins). Mind you, the biggest problem I've had has been the annoying one of disappearing allies - I've been playing 2 vs. 2 player games, so when that happens it's me against a couple of opponents, with usually predictable results.

Today however, things have been much better - after a typical game of getting crushed by better opponents, I had a better matched one and a co-operative team-mate (unlike one game where my team-mate went 'attack now' and then neglected to send his army on the offensive, leaving mine to get slaughtered) giving us a fairly easy win. In the third game, I again suffered from a missing ally - it appears that his network connection died and we had to vote him of, accompanied by my "Well, now I'm doomed". However, this time, the disappearance seems to have lulled my opponents into a false sense of security while I went hell-for-leather to try and make up the gap. The end result being them failing to spot my massive staging area right next to their bases and ... well, the icon says it all. :D :D :D

No, I wasn't at all smug. Why do you ask?

Certainly, if we happen to be on ESO at the same time - although that 13 hour time difference might be a bit of an issue ;-) My online name is Zorac.

My son is a slacker on LJ, at least in part because he's spending his time playing AOE3. Like me, he's been back in England since 7/7.
