Happy New Year!

New Year's Eve and it's hard to believe
Another Zodiac's gone around
While you drank yourself high on hoping
And watched the ceiling spin from the ground...

By the power of a radio-powered clock, I'm posting this bang on the real New Year (that's GMT, folks), so I'd like to be the first to wish you all the best for 2003! The year just gone has been - in most respects - a pretty darn good one for me (even if lots of the good stuff happened before I started this LJ), and there's certainly some interesting things coming up for the year to come. I've put down a few resolutions below - behind an lj-cut for those who think they would be TMI.

New Year's Resolutions

  1. OK, we'll start with a really boring and un-original one: to get more exercise. I did actually make a start on this one in 2002, with regular visits to the Gym and the swimming pool, but due to various reasons (holiday, shift changes, a bunch of late finishes) I got out of the habit - and never really got back in.
  2. To put in regular effort on my writing - I'm the kind of person who tends to work like crazy on a pet project for a few days or possibly weeks, then abandons it for months. If I can get into the habit of putting in (say) an hour a day, then could make real progress with XXIV, and maybe even that Harry/Hedwig story I've been threatening. It'd certainly be nice to have something out before Nimbus 2003.
  3. To do something about the bleak pit of despair that is my (complete lack of a) love life. I've spent rather too long waiting for Miss Right (Now) to metaphorically fall in to my lap (on second thoughts, literally would work too) and spirit me off to a life of bliss. Clearly, this isn't going to happen and it behoves me to be a little more proactive about it. Only problem is, I haven't the slightest idea how...
  4. Anything else I can think of.

Counting down from ten it's time
To make your annual prayer
Secret Santa in the sky
When will I get my share?

Then you tell yourself
What you want to hear
'Cause you have to believe
This will be my year.

Lyrics from This Will Be My Year from Semisonic's album Feeling Strangely Fine.
