Four Colours Suffice

This saw the first meeting of the new term for the Oxford University Invariant Society, and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the posing of the Four Colour Theorem Next Wednesday we had a talk from the estimable Dr. Robin Williams Wilson (think Richard Whitely with even worse dress sense and puns) on the history and solving of said problem.
[ Four Colours Suffice ]We've had talks from Robin on this subject before (as addedentry and jiggery_pokery will no doubt attest), but he still gave an interesting talk with some new anecdotes, not too many bad jokes plus bonus footage of Appel and Haken looking really bored (ve haff vays off makink your set off unaffoidable conffigurations reducible) - all in all pretty good start to the term.

Oh, and Robin was also plugging a new book (seems to be a running theme...) link to Amazon to your right.

Attendance was easily the best I've seen in along time although the number of new members was disappointingly low.
