They're everywhere...

Once again, I manfully resisted watching Tipping The Velvet (as discussed by addedentry last week) on the grounds that I'd be watching it purely in the hopes of seeing some lesbian action (a letter along the same lines in next week's Radio Times helped with that opinion - which brings me to another letter quite rightly bemoaning the fact the ITV was deluged with complaints because The Bill contained a gay kiss before the watershed - wheras all the drugs, violence and plenty of straight action is absolutely fine and dandy. I despair).

The world, in it's usual way, conspired to ensure that I got some lesbian action subtext-rapidly-becoming-text anyway.

The show in question being the latest episode in my rewatching of Buffy beyond which no-one with half a brain can deny what's going on (although the homophobe brigade apparently managed to cling to their "she had a boyfriend for a season and a half so she can't be gay" beliefs for another 2/3 episodes before giving up and starting with the hate mail). It's been subtly built up over the last dozen or so episodes, but this is where we get the first real "awwwww" scene:

A: (explaining why she hasn't introduced B to her friends) ...I just sort of like having something that's just, you know, mine...
(more dialog, as A is leaving:)
B:I am, you know.
A:What?
B:Yours.
And expressions speak louder than words.

And so begins my all-time favourite TV relationship which over the next two seasons is the driving force behind many of the best scenes on the show (both highs and lows). Plus they resist the temptaion to overplay it - maybe 3-4 on-screen kisses in the whole two years compared to plenty of snogging and PG-rated sex for the straight relationships.

What, precisely, is the tone of voice intended behind the "ergh" in your current mood, pray tell? I could pronounce that a number of different ways (six off the top of my head, I've just counted) each with a different meaning.

As we used to say five years ago: "zig-a-zig ahhh"!

As several people kindly pointed out to me yesterday "you sound rough", it's definitely an "I've got my first cold of the winter" ergh, and entirely unrelated to the content of my posting...
