BBC: Microsoft creator to be knighted

I heard rumors about this yesterday, but now it's been confirmed. Apparently Gordon Brown has realised that I didn't dislike him enough for him to take over from Tony later in the week. This little gem is most certainly a good start. Honestly, what has Bill Gates done for 'enterprise in the UK' - other than screwing vast amounts of money out of them for sub-standard software, of course. I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the government getting better licensing terms on their copies of Window, Office and the like...

Apparently not - although this is an honorary knighthood, and he doesn't actually get to use the title "Sir".
Thank goodness for small mercies. I don't think I could stand it if people started addressing him as "Sir Bill".
Oh but don't you realise, Bill Gates is going to personally rid the Internet of spam. Anyone who can do that must deserve a knighthood.
Ah, yes, of course.

Admittedly, my response to that was "yes, and 640k is enough for anyone". On the other hand, I'd be happy to nominate anyone who did personally rid the Internet of spam for canonisation...
It's just a ploy to get Bill Gates in close proximity with a sword. [From ukrc]
