Blatant rip-off of the day

Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring to your attention Amkells.co.uk. alnitak pointed this site out to me - the similarities in the site design to Amazon.co.uk are quite breathtaking. For the most blatant example, have a look at their safe shopping guarantee and compare it to that on Amazon - they're word-for-word identical, as is much of the "Where's My Stuff?" etc. section at the bottom of each page. Google searching turns up virtually nothing for amkells other than link shops.

I'm not quite sure what's going on there, but it certainly smells like fish to me.

Updates: The email I fired off to Amazon has had nothing but a form reply so far. Googling for amkells now turns up my LJ on the first page :)

More updates: The information in this comment does lean towards their legitimacy, but on the other hand, the site appears to be down at the moment...

They're clones!

*runs away*

Love the icon :D
"Customer's favourite's"... I'm thinking there are grocers involved here, somehow.

Jeez, that's breathtaking.
*nods* Their consistent use of "Manufacture's" is a particular favourite...
Various of their pages give a business address of 15 Rokells, Basildon - a quick check on Google shows all the details tally up with the Amkells Mobile Disco.

I give the guy (it has just got to be a guy) several hundred marks out of ten for outrageous cheek, but none for being likely to ever receive an order, or indeed still be in business come March 1st.
Amazon have offices in my building, i'm going to report these amkells guys....I googled amkells.co.uk and amazon and got your LJ :)
I did send them an email, but I've had nothing more than a form reply thus far.
I mailed copyright@amazon.co.uk, I haven't received an auto reply yet so i'm guessing it might be an address that actual people deal with :)
That certainly sounds like a more helpful place to send it to - I just used one of the contact forms on the website. It took a couple of days for me to get a reply, so I think it was human-sent, but a generic response saying they'd pased it on to the appropriate department.

I was directed to them by Kelkoo but shared the same concerns that everyone else is expressing. My first thought was that they were "phishing" for Amazon usernames/passwords. As in "this is so much like Amazon I wonder if my password works"
I would agree with the last couple of postings. I don't think they're dodgy but I don't think they're very efficient either.

If they simply stated on their home page that they had used Amazon to help with their website, people might not be so suspicious.

But on the other hand, a flash website doesn't make up for poor service.

I think I'll stick to dabs.

Oops, just checked my e:mail after posting the above message and had this in my inbox from Kelkoo: -

Hi Alex,

Thank you for providing us with information regarding Amkells. Due to the number of complaints we have had regarding their customer service we have made the decision to remove them from Kelkoo.

Amkells are a legitimate trading company and I don't think you should be too concerned about sending them your credit card details. I understand they have had some distribution problems recently and I hope that these are now being resolved. I suggest that you contact Stuart Johnson on 01268 820218 staurt@amkells.com if you have any further concerns regarding your order.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if your order does not arrive or you do not receive your money back.

Regards

Looks like Kelkoo had a similar opinion to us!!!

Alex
i also placed an order with them for roll paper, after several days i emailed as the order had not arived, they claimed one item was out of stock, but when i had ordered all were listed as available within 24 hours. i have emailed the repeatedly since but have had no reply. one point to note - their terms and conditions say they will charge 20% on all cancelled items - this is as far a i can see against the law as in the distance selling regs 2000 "cooling off priod" i think the word is beware!!;-(
I placed an order with amkells and after waiting a few weeks
for it, and receiving no reply from my emails (the help page was also
'under construction') I sent them a further email stating that I
was going to shop elsewhere as they were taking too long and giving me no feedback.
Suffice to say, two months after placing the order and 1 month after
cancelling and buying the goods from another website, the package turned up.
I returned it straight away about two weeks ago and have yet to receive
a refund but I am determined to get my money back whether I have to
make a small claim or take a trip down to Basildon 'wiv da boys'...

BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU WISH TO BUY FROM THEM...
You want another "boy". I orderered some CD cases on 12 Feb, and despite my credit card having been debited on 9th March, still no CD cases. Now their web shop is "temporarily" closed. Legit? You guess.
ordered goods to the value of £150 never recieved the goods but cc was debited imediately, tried to cancell with cc but they would not. Sent seven emails and got one patronising answer about order and company structure. The cc have returned my cash but i dont like being ripped and i am gonna make a trip to basildon wiv da boys...................
