Blatant rip-off of the day

Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring to your attention Amkells.co.uk. alnitak pointed this site out to me - the similarities in the site design to Amazon.co.uk are quite breathtaking. For the most blatant example, have a look at their safe shopping guarantee and compare it to that on Amazon - they're word-for-word identical, as is much of the "Where's My Stuff?" etc. section at the bottom of each page. Google searching turns up virtually nothing for amkells other than link shops.

I'm not quite sure what's going on there, but it certainly smells like fish to me.

Updates: The email I fired off to Amazon has had nothing but a form reply so far. Googling for amkells now turns up my LJ on the first page :)

More updates: The information in this comment does lean towards their legitimacy, but on the other hand, the site appears to be down at the moment...

Alex, if you try the link that Kelkoo gave you to contact Amkells (including the part of the link not "hypertexted") you'll find it takes you through to a page of the Amkells catalogue and NOT the Contact Us page.

The jury is still out on these cowboys .....
Hi everybody, Yep, I had a worrying encounter with amkells. Usually I am carefull and google up a company before buying from them. However this time I just trusted them because I went through kelkoo. Anyways, I attempted to place an order with them for a graphics card. After I placed the order, I recived a confirmation mail from them (Good) then about half an hour later, a mail saying The order was canceld "Unfortunately your credit/debit card has been declined. Please check all the details as sometimes it is just a wrong number, expiry date or an issue number missing, and ensure that there are adequate funds in the account, also the post code in your invoice address has got to match the post code of where your credit/debit card is registared too i.e invoice address. If you make any changes to your credit card details we will try to process the order again automatically. Your order has now been cancelled from our system please try re-ordering". So maybe stupidly (it was late), I entered my details again and the same thing happened again (Hmmm Dear - starting to get worried). I then googled Amkells and found this journal(Hmmm ******* Disco's) Checked my bank account the next day and the price of the grapics card had been debited twice, =nearly £400 (*****AMKELLS!!****etc),Sent Amkells a "extremely concerned" mail (Saterday evening) received mail back (Tues morning) "With regards to your inquire regarding the two attempts for placing orders with us at Amkells, I can verify that in fact that no funds have been taken by us both of your orders failed to pass basic security checks. The postcode that you used for your invoice address never matched the address of where your credit/debit card is registared too, our system also pre-authorizes transactions payments we don't taken any money until an order is ready to be shipped. Both orders were cancalled dew to the security checks in place by our card payment provider". I ran down to the bank ready to report them, Checked my balance and everything was restored!. I checked with the cashier and there was no record of anything coming out(got it on a mini statement), Wiped out. So I think after all that, it was a bank error ummm strange. Lastly I sent Amkells a mail and said it was prob down to the bank but also said" I would suggest you do some site maintenance though, as some parts of your site are glitchy to say the least, last time I checked, the site security certificate comes up expired and when you enter address details, the County entry jumps up to join the same line as the Town. Also part of your Help section was down, all of which does not inspire customer confidence. Best whishes anyways." Funny, they have'nt replied (thought I was being helpfull) So after all that (sorry it was a bit long) it seems they aint thieves, Just very Shonky.
