For a minute I thought it meant he'd attacked a waiter.
I can see why you'd think that...
I try not to attack waiters too often. It tends to affect the quality of service you get next time you go to the same restaurant.

That said, it was pretty close with one at an Italian place we went to the first time I was in Chicago. He was like "Oh, you're from England - I think it's so great that you guys are supporting us in the war..." Sadly, this was as we were leaving, so it was too late to leave a 1 cent tip.
You should have rushed back and taken the remainder of the tip.
