t00by boyfriend, black untie

There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!

Good old Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, first he had a fansite - We Love the Iraqi Information Minister dot com, and now the BBC reports that he has his own action figures - including a talking one. My favourite quote: "I speak better English than this villain Bush" - MSS actually speaking the truth for once!

Finally managed to find some cheap flights for July yesterday - An impressive £250 round-trip, beating my previous best price by at least £200. OK, so it's not a direct flight, but for those sorts of savings, I'm willing to be inconvenienced. For those as are interested, I found it on ebookers via Kelkoo, but it's not to Orlando and includes a few days either side of Nimbus.

Finally got around to watching the directors' commentary on Shrek last night, despite it being probably my most-watched DVD. A few interesting titbits, but I think in future I'll just sit back and enjoy the film properly. The film itself remains hilarious, and there are some great serious moments too - the love montage underneath Hallelujah is simply sublime.

Oh, and random channel surfing during breakfast found me at Challenge TV and a marathon of the insanely silly Takeshi's Castle - a Japanese game show featuring daft physical games (it's a knockout stylee), and mostly featuring the competitors who fail in the most spectacular (and quite possibly painful) fashion. Commentary by Craig Charles just makes it even funnier.

Cannot cope. Off to Chicago.

OK, well it seems like the wished-for hot weather has arrived - my Gallileo thermometer has gone off the scale - at least 28°C.

Had my aunt and one of her friends to stay last night - which was nice, as they cooked for me. A nice big roast lamb dinner - yum. Not something that really makes sense to do just for one, but it is nice, plus I have left over enough to last me the rest of the week. And then we watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show, although I didn’t do the time warp.

The barebone system for my new office PC arrived today - very dinky. Memory also arrived and disks are being transplanted from my old system. Alas, the CPU has not yet arrived, so the pretty box is just sitting on my desk tormenting me...

Vroom!

Went Karting with work yesterday evening. This was entirely too much fun, and I survived without even much stiffness or bruising. Despite having done it once before, it was still a good long time before I was comfortable enough to really put my foot down and get in some half-decent lap times. Admittedly, my final position was still pretty unimpressive - but hey, I was there to have fun, not to win (that went to the organiser, as with the Grand National sweepstake ;-)

As regards Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (current bestseller in daftonia), I haven't read the spoilers and I don't want to read the spoilers. I don't care if they're no worse than the back of the book jacket, because I won't be reading that before I read the book. Anyone posting spoilers not behind a cut will be poisoned, shot, hung, drawn, quartered and then really hurt. In the nicest possible way, of course.

Mmmmmm...

Had a very pleasant weekend thanks to the presence of hermorrine. Some details and flattering comments about me can be found on her LJ. She is the best :-)

Random thoughts: Am left with all sorts of nice edibles in my kitchen - most of a delicious Cheese Pie and assorted non-pie cheese, cream (clotted and otherwise), scones, crumpets, a box of very fine chocolates, Red Bull, frozen left-over bolognese and chilli and probably some other stuff I've forgotten. No m00se left, though. I am not the only person who thinks the curse in The Mummy contains the word Mact00b.

I'm sure I had some other thoughts, but they have all deserted me. Wah! Nearly six weeks until I see my girlfriend again :-(

Edit: Replaced the first half of the second paragraph which LJ managed to eat.

Om...

Firstly, I'd like to apologise to everyon who was distressed by last night's spider pictures. Sorry about that. Secondly, $75,000,000,000 - surely they could do an awful lot more good with that money elsewhere than this war is going to acheive. Oh, and everyone sould read this entry from angiej's journal - there are far worse things than the war itself. THirdly, todays discussions in the office have gone all Zen with the old "If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound" routine. I expect either quantum mechanics or comparative theology tomorrow...

Attack of the Giant Spider

Strange day today: spent a chunk of the afternoon discussing Collapse ).

And then this evening, whilst chatting with hermorrine, I noticed out of the corner of my eye, something moving. It was Aragog. After recovering from the initial shock, I deftly captured it with the old glass-and-paper routine. I then proceeded to take pictures (with a 2p piece for size reference):

That done, I returned Aragog to the wild via the medium of the kitchen window.

Night's Dawn

It's review time again! This time, three weighty volumes by Peter F. Hamilton: The Reality Dysfunction, The Neutronium Alchemist and The Naked God - space opera on a grand scale (we're talking over 3,700 pages in total - getting towards 3 times the length of The Lord of the Rings). More below:
