Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Crawled out of bed and into the kitchen for my first shot of juice of the day and glanced out of the window. My first utterance included several expletives and the word "snow". I vaguely recall hearing it, and it must have appeared over the space of a few minutes (admittedly it looked more like a dusting of icing sugar than anything else, and turned to sludge at the slightest touch). It's now started up again and have an interesting display of swirling flakes outside my office window. I'm just hoping that this isn't going to affect my train tomorrow.

In other news, AOL Time Warner have posted a loss for last year of (CRASH ZOOM) One Hundred Beeeelion Dollars! Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that they must be involved with Dr. Evil Collapse )

... and all that jazz

Suffered some missing time this morning (as sometimes happens) so I ended up getting up rather later than planned, but never mind. First order off business was to trundle up to the sports centre and renew my membership (it being the annual £100 off day) - hopefully I will actually get my money's worth this year. Need ... more ... will-power. Have gym induction (again) next week as I can't remember how the weights machines worked - I only really used the bikes/treadmills/rowing machines etc last year.

Given all this, I arrived in town well after the start of OxCon for the day and everyone was already embroiled in long-running games. Given this, I immediately t00bed off to the cinema to watch Chicago, which was enormous fun. I've always been a big fan of musicals, and this one didn't disappoint, managing not to become a complete triumph of style over substance (and what style!). Only the one immediately memorable song, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The leads are ale great - and they even did all their own singing and dancing (as explicitly pointed out in the credits ;-)

Returned to the Mitre and found a couple of games for the afternoon/evening (avoiding Settlers as have been repeatedly told it's a game of chance - complete with comedy games involving cutting decks to see who wins etc - and nobody has convincingly refuted this). For food, I took (and completed!) the Chocolate Challenge (approx. a gallon of ice-cream, chocolate brownie, various chocolate-covered things, chocolate sauce, cream and marshmallows) - reminiscent of the hobbits having pints at Bree, various people decided that they needed to have one too.

All-in-all, another fun day. Sadly, I have to go to work tomorrow, but at least it's only a four day week.

The remains of the day

Got home again at around 9:30 and just mooched around for an hour or so before heading into town. Picked up a couple of PC/Mac hybrid games for home and laptop play (Quake 3 & Warcraft 3, £30 for both) before heading to OxCon. I'm not actually a hardcore gamer, so it was just a chance to play a few random and interesting games (not the Diplomacy tournament). Much fun was had (partly due to a healthy dose of beginner's luck). Sloped out late afternoon for some more retail therapy - Buck Rodgers Flash Gordon and Tron DVDs at £20 for the two - classic! More curry in the evening, complete with a game of Mao at the table (and some drinks that were ordered on arrival only turning up after we'd finished eating. No tips for them...)

Another day, another late night...

Work was somewhat frustrating today - I'm trying to get the new servers set up, but we're having all sorts of weird driver issues with the SCSI controller leading to (not entirely random) disk corruption - most annoying. At least I'd contrived an early shift and so was able to slope off at half four. Bussed into town where met up with jiggery_pokery and (briefly) cygnusfap - we investigated Cyg's transport options for MacT00bage next weekend in an internet café. After this, it was off to LaserQuest where I got a puny!laser pack and ended up in a pathetic last place (FYI at the same event last year, I won one of the two games, so not entirely unjustified in blaming tools). Had curry (much faster service than last weekend's place) before off for some gaming. First up was a chariot-racing game by the name of Ben Hurt (sic) - quite interesting, but dragged on somewhat. This was followed by far-and-away the silliest bout of the Chairman's Game I recall playing. Didn't really get very far, but fun all the same. On the bus home was serenaded loudly by several competing groups of footie supporters. Joy.

A Long-Expected Party

Yes, folks, it's my eleventy-first LiveJournal entry!

Firstly: Eleventy-one posts is too short a time to spend among such excellent and admirable LiveJournalists. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. (No, I can't figure out if that's a compliment either.)

Secondly: Collapse ).

Thirdly: I would like to make an ANNOUNCEMENT. This is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOODBYE!

Mact00bage! (there's a double meaning in that...)

Am posting this on my new iBook, using iJournal (thanks to queerasjohn for the link). This being the first laptop I've ever owned, and indeed the first time I've used a Mac in about seven years (last time was in the Keble computer room, and only when the PCs were all in use). With Apple eye-candy on top and UNIX underneath, OS X is much with the goodness. I'm still in the "getting used to it" phase, so won't say much more now, except that both hardware and software wise it's already had more "woah, cool!" comments out of me than anything else I've used.

In other news, have booked time off and train tickets for Mact00bage - yay for another fandom meet! Also, saw car with number-plate G1NNY on the way to work this morning.

Fandom meet, cont'd...

Actually posted the last entry just as the people mentioned (plus milenalupin arrived. They brought chocolate. Mmmm... Many threats to steal Evil Time clock. We chatted for a bit before heading into town for the meet proper.

I suspect an early night is needed. Must remember to wash nude!Hermione off my arm before work tomorrow, though...

Much! Annoyance! From! Yahoo!

Humph. So I spend half an hour typing up my directions etc for the Oxford Meet on Saturday, when I go to post, Yahoo! prompts for my password. Fair enough, except that after I enter it, rather than posting the message it dumps me back to the front page. And when I go back to the form, IE has nicely wiped it clean for me. Meaning that I have to type the whole [expletive deleted] thing in again - and of course I then managed to forget to give it a subject...
