Oh, shiny black MacBook, how do I perve on thee! I'm sorely tempted to go out and get one right now, but I already made the decision to wait for at least the second generation of any Intel-based macs (plus Leopard and iLife '07, if possible). Still, it is so pretty!
Meanwhile, I've been working my way back through my LJ history, tagging all my entries. I've got back nearly three years so far, but I keep inventing new tags, so I think this is going to be something like painting the Forth Rail Bridge.
Further to this post, I have decided that my flat shall be henceforth known as The T00blerone - partially because I like that name best, but mostly because the walls of my lounge are in fact the colour of a Toblerone box. hanacandi wins a ( Collapse ) for her suggestion. Also, I'm pleased to report that no further trick-or-treaters dared to darken my door.
Saturday saw me making my usual foray into Oxford. This time, head of the agenda were some hair reduction measures, followed by lunch and a movie. I even managed to resist the temptation to spend money on CDs/Games/DVDs for once. The movie in question was the highly entertaining Intolerable Cruelty - we certainly seem to be doing well for rom-coms at the moment, with last month's Down With Love and the upcoming luvvie-fest Love Actually. Also went to Lush and must un-recommend the Xmas Pud ballistic on the grounds of it generating nasty scum and leaving a horrible ring around my bath.
Yesterday followed the usual stay-at-home Sunday formula. An unexpectedly large chunk of the day was taken up by an extended game of Warblade (see the second comment), so it was gone four before I even had lunch, and I have no idea what happened to the rest of the afternoon... After dinner I had a brief Y!M with malachan regarding T00bage Revolutions, and a longer chat with hermorrine (although Y!M's webcam functionality seems to have become unreliable since I upgraded to Panther. Grr).
Oh, and just in case no-one on your friends list has pointed it out to you yet, you can now but more userpics. Unless you have a permanent account, in which case you've already had your limit increased for 15 to 20. No, I'm not gloating, why do you ask?
See my new icon? That's today’s Dilbert strip - whatever day you're reading this (except Sundays at the moment). Nifty, huh? I have a bunch of perl which grabs the latest strip from the Dilbert website, cuts it up, resizes the parts to make an animated GIF then uploads it to LJ in place of the existing one. ( Collapse ) Update: W00t! It works! Todays strip is there completely sans human intervention.
Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday dear zorac, Happy Birthday to Me!
Yes, folks, zorac is exactly one year old right about now, having racked up 268 entries, 968 comments posted and 1,351 comments received. Mark, on the other hand, is exactly 27¾ sometime today, so it's another three months until the proper birthday.
OK, I have done some friends-list culling as mentioned the other day, some people have been filtered (as per my poll), others (and those who didn't answer) have been defriended. If you fall in the latter group, I'm happy to re-friend you, but you'll go in the filter so I probably won't read your journal all that often. I'm using the 'Default View', so folk I've filtered just won't appear on my default friends page.
Gah. Things are getting to the point where my friends page regularly picks up dozens of posts in just a few hours and keeping up with them all is just draining far too much of my time. Something has to change, as it means that other things are not getting done. Two options present themselves: firstly, I could just defriend a whole bunch of people who I don't really know, secondly, I could just read my friends page filtered. To help me decide, here's a gratuitous poll which I may or may not take any notice of. Enjoy.
Poll #176376To de, or not to de - that is the question.

In case you hadn't realised just how virulent the SoBig-F email virus is, our virus scanner logs show that we've found more than twice as many copies of SoBig-F in the last week as we found all viruses in total for the preceding year.
Last night's movie was A Knight's Tale, a film I knew was going to be fun the first time I saw it - when Queen's We Will Rock You starts up, it manages not to be incongruous with the medieval setting, and it takes you a while to realise that the amassed peasants (and indeed nobles) are stamping, clapping and singing along. This interweaving of the modern and the historical continues throughout the film to good effect.
Re-watching that was inspired by my re-reading of Tamora Pierce's swords and sorcery novels - some of the later of which feature jousting. I've been reading these books for the best part of twenty years - they are "Junior Fiction", aimed at a slightly older age group than Harry Potter - and the three Tortall quartets continue to be among my all-time favourite books. Happily, I can see from Ms. Pierce's site that she has plenty more books planned for the next few years.
