A random poll...

This came from a discussion the other day about which are the best and ... er ... least best Pixar movies. To help answer that question, here's a poll! Simply rank them in order from 7 for the best down to 1 for the worst (if you haven't seen one or more, simply skip it/them and leave some gaps).

Now that I've started moving back in, some more kitchen pics. At last, a home for my alcohol collection! And now for something completely random:

Poll #759584 Who approacheth the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see!

What is your name?

What is your quest?

What is your favourite sandwich?

OMG free doughnuts, sign me up!

This will be a random entry.

Last weekend I was up in Yorkshire, visiting the lovely frayer. Whilst on a brief expedition to the pretty city of York, we discovered the ideal solution for those little snack cravings - Collapse )

Yesterday, I ventured in to down to run various errands. On coming round the corner from my flat, I was confronted by this Collapse ) Naturally, I plan to live for ever, but should the worst happen and I end up the guest of honour at a funeral!t00bage, I expect you all to chip in to send me off "Swiftly, and With Style". (Points to any one other than Freya who gets that reference.)

Once I got into town, I was rather surprised to see a couple of people carrying Krispy Kreme boxes, not being aware of anywhere in Oxford selling said doughnuts. After seeing several more people (including a policeman with several boxes) I got onto Queen Street where it seemed that every other person had some. Turning the corner, all was revealed in the form of a long queue of people leading to a lorry filled with such boxes. A few minutes later, I was the proud owner of one dozen free original glaze doughnuts. Yum. Collapse )

Thus fortified, I ventured forth unto the kitchen showroom, where I did verily order a kitchen. Finally. A slight tweak to the original plan to put a proper corner-cupboard on the wall rather than just leaving a void, plus selecting the worktop, appliances, etc, etc. In a couple of month's time, I should have a kitchen worthy of a king. As opposed to the current one which isn't worthy of a pauper...

After other assorted shopping ad some food, I went to the cinema to see V for Vendetta. Whilst most certainly not subtle in its politics it was more so in its action sequences than the Wachowski brothers' most recent efforts - more plot-heavy than effects-heavy, even compared to the original Matrix. Plus you have to love Stephen Fry being, well, Stephen Fry, and Natalie Portman is so much better when the director actually permits her to act...

Since then, I've been mostly playing 24: The Game. Whilst certainly not having the most original or high quality gameplay in the world, what it does do very well is re-create the feel of the TV show - most obviously the clock, but also the use of split-screen and technobabbleollocks. Having the original voice cast really helps, and they actually did a pretty good job of making the characters look real. So far, pretty good fun.

The Da Vinci Cast

So, I've had a look over the casting choices for the movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code. I can't argue with the acting ability of most of the choices, but the producers seem to have (in most cases) chosen people who completely fail to fit [my mind's eye view of] the characters. What do you think? Obviously, it would be rather pointless to try filling out this poll if you haven't read the book. The actual cast are listed after the character name for your mocking pleasure. Folks who haven't read the book may want to stay clear of the comments in case of spoilers.

Poll #514433 Re-cast The Da Vinci Code

Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks)

Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tatou)

Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen)

Bishop Aringarosa (Alfred Molina)

Bezu Fache (Jean Reno)

Silas (Paul Bettany)

Checking Out

Random rant of the day: Supermarket checkouts
  1. Why is it that whichever queue I choose, it's always the wrong one. I get the person with a duff credit card, or whose items won't scan, or who stops for a nice chat with the cashier, or who didn't buy enough to use a whole Retward voucher and disappears back into the store for a couple of minutes to find something else (I kid you not).
  2. I'm entirely capable of packing my own bags. No, really. When did this go from "I'm just here to scan items." to "Can I help you pack, sir?" to "I'm going to pack whether you like it or not!"? I wouldn't mind so much if they weren't so completely hopeless at it - large multipacks of fruit juce which have their own carrying handles go into bags regardless, often accompanied by a couple of heavy bottles - while the few remaining (light) items half-fill a second bag.
  3. The "Ten Items or Less" checkout:

Here endeth the rant.

Punt00bage 2004

Greetings, t00bs! Summer is fast approaching (not that you'd know from the weather), and this year's Punt00bage in Oxford is only five weeks away. The exact dates for those without a calendar handy are Friday 11th June through Sunday 13th June. Hopefully most people will be able to stay over Saturday night, and Friday night is open house too - Sunday is more 'if you need to stay'. I know this is in the middle of exams for some of you, but unfortunately it was the only weekend possible - although there are plans afoot for a mini!punt00bage some time in August.

As usual, this t00bage is open to anyone, but bear in mind that lately they've been more friends-based than fandom based, so if you don't know any of the usual suspects and are coming in expectation of deep discussions of HP, you may be out of luck. The August t00bage will be an invite-only thing.

Tentative plan of action (subject to change pending outcome of poll): Friday night happy hour at Hollywood Cocktails followed by general t00bing chez moi. Meet for lunch at a pub in town, then go punting. Evening plans are a little more vague, but from past experience probably involve copious amounts of alcohol (and possibly an EUD if we can get Cyg drunk enough). Sunday we can probably just make up as we go along. If people are interested, we can go to see PoA at some point, and I have PS and CoS on DVD, so there's the option of MST3King them earlier in the weekend. If you have any other ideas for what we could do, where we could eat, etc, please leave a comment!

The leiabelle Memorial Sweepstake: Who's going to fall in the river this time?

Sweepstake rules: Whoever posts a name first gets it. No voting for yourself. No deliberate pushing people in. Judge's decision is final. Prize probably won't be worth winning anyway. FALLING IN THE RIVER MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH.

Punt00bage '04

Greetings, t00bs! This is a pre-announcement for this year's Punt00bage - I'll do a proper one on t00bage some time after folk are back on LJ after the Easter break. Due to having to fit it in after exams finish but before the end of term, this has ended up as the weekend after the release of PoA - Friday 11th - Sunday 13th June - which co-incidentally is exactly one year after the original punt!t00bage.

The current vague plan is much the same as last year - Friday night at the T00blerone, meeting somewhere for lunch on Saturday (but not the Eagle and Child this time, on account of their food being teh crap) followed by punting and Pimms, then more random t00bing for the rest of the weekend. There's at least an outside chance that some people may want to watch Prisoner of Azkaban. Update: Oh, and I'm sure that G&D's and Hollywood Cocktails will also feature. Random unofficial poll follows:

Poll #274745 I want to be a Punt00b!

Round 1: Random tickyboxes

Yes! I want to come to Punt00bage!
3(17.6%)
I plan on falling in the river.
0(0.0%)
Please don't make me watch PoA...
0(0.0%)
I like tickyboxes.
5(29.4%)

Round 2: Who should fall in the river this year?

Round 3 (optional): Where should we meet on Saturday?

DISCLAIMER: Falling in the Cherwell may be dangerous to your health. Do not attempt to insert punt pole into ear. Results of this poll may be ignored. Offer not valid to employees of T00bage Enterprises, Inc, or its affiliates. This entry features a Gratuitous Icon Post. Spending an exteded amount of time in the company of numerous t00bs may lead to extreme silliness.

Trick or Treat?

It's barely past six, and already the trick-or-treaters have started - the 17 billion kids from the flat downstairs. I didn't have any visitors last year, so was caught unprepared, but I managed to grab a bag of Harry Potter sherbet lemons, so they went away happy. I have some other random candy around, so hopefully I can deal with any further becostumed kids - if all else fails, I'll weigh them down with chunks of t00blerone ;-)

Random thought of the day: other fandomers have cool names for their abodes (the Avocado, Johnguo, the Pink, etc), and clearly this is a bandwagon I need to jump on before T00bage Revolutions, so:

Friends page overload

Gah. Things are getting to the point where my friends page regularly picks up dozens of posts in just a few hours and keeping up with them all is just draining far too much of my time. Something has to change, as it means that other things are not getting done. Two options present themselves: firstly, I could just defriend a whole bunch of people who I don't really know, secondly, I could just read my friends page filtered. To help me decide, here's a gratuitous poll which I may or may not take any notice of. Enjoy.

Poll #176376 To de, or not to de - that is the question.

What should I do about friends-page overload?

Trim down your friends list - it's the honest thing to do.
11(33.3%)
Use filters, then folk can still read your protected posts.

I don't care what you do to them, just don't defriend me!
